A Drawing of My Mum's Childhood

This is one of family’s favourite pictures: my mother at age 7 (left) and my aunt at age 6 being carried by my beaming maternal grandfather in the 1970s.

The setting is an old shophouse in Bukt Timah which had been the home of my grandfather and his 12 siblings since the 1930s.

My late great-grandfather made and sold candles for religious ceremonies. He used to paint dragons with big eyes winding down large red candles.

They looked very majestic, my mother said.

I will write more about this in another post.
